Canada Day Celebrations Back After Two-Year Hiatus
It wasn’t quite the full scale Canada Day celebration that we usually see in the area, but for the first time in two years, many events returned.
In Osgoode, the Canada Day Parade was back. This year’s parade was moved to noon from its traditional 5 p.m. start. There were fewer than 10 entries in the parade, but it was still well attended.
Before the parade, there was a Canada Day kids’ bike decorating contest, with recently re-elected Carleton Member of Provincial Parliament Goldie Ghamari serving as the guest judge. The contest was held at Vibration Studios, and when the parade passed the cyclists, they joined in and entered the parade behind the Osgoode Legion float.
North Gower held its annual Canada Day bike parade, which wound through the village and ended at the Alf Taylor Community Centre. The crowd at the community centre enjoyed Canada Day cupcakes, sang O Canada, and there were games and activities for local children and youths.
Riverside South did not hold its annual full slate of activities at Claudette Cain Park, but they did hold a fireworks display in the evening.
Other Canada Day events with fireworks in the area took place in Greely, Metcalfe and Vernon.
